Hello, this is my first time on a forum so please be gentle!! I have had my 1975 fastback for nearly a year now and she is not very well. I have spent the last 6 months welding all the holes up only to find more holes and filler. Now we have discovered that the rear turrets are rotten and full of filler as were both the spring hangers. This car must have been a death trap! Work has stopped now for the winter so i will decide if she is worth carrying on with after xmas. The interior is good, as is the engine so not all bad. I have tried to upload aphoto of the old girl. Kev

Welcome Kev, You have rot in all the normal places - you'll get there!
At least in a '75 you get all the "modern stuff" like retracting seat belts, hazard flashers and tinted windows!
Hi Jon, about time you updated your signature you are missing some cars

Welcome to the forum Kev and good to hear from another sensible motorist Rapier owner!
Don't give up, you will be part of an exclusive club once you get back on the road. As has been said you have found rot that many of us have also, my strut tops looked like this before they were replaced;
Repair panels are available so keep an eye out, car looks in pretty good condition from the photo and the colour suits it well.
Keep us posted!

As said before, keep going on! It will be worth it.. I've only driven my granddad's and already love driving it! Can't wait till I get mine rolling which will be even better as my granddad's as it will have full poly bushes etc... But as yours mine also has rot in every usual place.. sills, floors some extra ventilation in the boot... the lot!
Good luck with it!
'68 sunbeam rapier fastback {B341006846 OD/LHO} I like a car that looks normal but really knocks your socks off!!

Hi Kev, Sorry to hear you've found more rust in the tops of rear struts It doesn't sound like it is too bad. I drove my old H120 with severe rust in those and it never pushed through, those were the days running about in something that was just about legal. I think you should be over the worst welding wize now! As for wheel; it looks like an Alpine that took the smaller hub caps rather than Rapier trims; I can just see the little lugs on the inner circle. It should be same size as Rapier; we've got odd Rapier wheels about if you need one. Cheers for now. Glen. |

Hi Glen, how are you? thanks for the wheel info, it is basically the same but a lot deeper than the rapier ones, i will add a rapier one to my ever lengthening list of spares to get next spring. The last Rapier i had was in 1974 so i am just learning all the rust traps on them...there are a lot!. The back end is done apart from the strut tops & quarter panels now so hopefully just the passenger side sill and inner arch to do. Do you know by any chance how many Rapiers are out there in my colour (prairie wind) as i have never seen another one. All the best, Kev |

Hi Kev, Good progress then. Prarie Wind; I know of 1 H120 in a similar colour, but that could be 'Oyster', so it might be the only one! BTW, I've got that bottom o/s hinge if you still need it. Cheers. Glen. |

Hi Glen, yes i definitely need the hinge, i am fed up with the door closing on my leg!! Can you email me the price and how i go about getting it please. I must say i wasn't keen on the colour when i first bought her but it has grown on me since, it would be interesting if it was the only one left. I am getting paint mixed up soon ready for next year, our local paint shop is very good so hopefully it will match reasonably well. I really appreciate your help with this car, thank you. Best wishes, Kev |
