yes, I will be rallying the car so no need for o/d plus they are alleged to be a bit weak when setting off the line (splines twisting)
and it will probably save a little weight as well !

Hi Andyb - is there a specific reason why you are changing to a non o/d box

Got longer u bolts
New axle to spring mounts
New saddle plates
New shocker mounts to weld to axle tube
Will have to post a pic up when it's done just waiting for a suitable ford axle case

Thanks Andy,
Lowering the rear is indeed a lot easier!
Although you might need longer U-bolts...

Let me know always interested! ;)

I would say std mk2 rs2000 springs would suit a std road car, lower but not to stiff coupled with the struts refurbed
The measurement from wheel arch to floor was 23 inches

The rear is easy I will be having a play with lowering blocks as I have several sizes so will be able to give you some measurements soon

Wow, nice Andy, didn't know your car was this well equipped in the rear!! ;)

Was looking at the Gartrac chart, but can't really see which ones I 'd have to choose to get it lowered and stiffened up a bit...
Could you give me an idea, by comparing them with yours?

As standard they produce 88bhp which is not bad for a 1725cc 8v engine. As a comparison the Cortina's 1600 engine that was around at the same time produced 69bhp in the standard car and 88bhp in the GT.

I'm looking forward to getting some pics of it on your way to Preston on Saturday morning. Probably the closest it will get to here, so there's no selling out now Andy.

Also if you want to up the power output of your engine to 130hp it would be a lot less expensive to have your camshaft reground to E128 spec' and have your carbs retuned.
