Hello, Have recently negotiated the purchase of a 1970 Rapier fastback (in white) and I'm looking forward to making a start on getting it back on the road.
A Vauxhall and Jaguar man normally, I'm a sucker for a "baby Barracuda" and hope to be able to make an active contribution to the forum

Hi Myto...got a bit of a penchant for them too. Don't remember seeing a white one for sale recently, but you're in the right place if you need any help.

Hello mytocon
Then we are at least 2 owners of a white Rapier. Mine is from 1968. And I bought it in November. I forgive arrocuda for his momentous laps of memory...
Best greetings from the Isle of Arran in Scotland. |

Ok.... Don't remember seeing a white one for sale recently, (if you don't count the white one that Bruno bought and then drove all the way from the South of England to the Western Isles of Scotland a couple of months ago). But I don't think it could be that one!

I haven't yet taken possession but I have done the deal with a friend of mine , John Green, a SAAB man. He heard about it four years or so ago and bought it to save it but he's a busy man and hasn't had the chance to do anything with it other than store it under cover. Now he's moving further down the South Coast he's thinning the collection down. I rather enjoy the challenge of resurrecting a long slumbering vehicle and this one has been off the road since 1982. Let's see if the photos come up.....

Briefly, as I recall, the car was taken of the road in 1982 as the owner had given up driving. My intention is just recommission it and get some use out of it over the summer.
However another friend has possibly put the kibosh on that idea as he want's it so it may be recommission, one show and then on to a new owner.
Alternatively, it may be a nightmare of rot, seizures and pain.
Whichever way it goes, I WILL enjoy it! |

Welcome to the forum and rapier ownership. I remember hearing about this one a while back and assumed it would be another one destined to meet its maker. I'm glad I was wrong, it is encouraging that we are seeing new owners join the fold, it all makes for a positive future!
Good luck and keep us posted

Looks like a nice straight car (compare and contrast to burnt orange car on ebay). Shouldn't take too much to recommission.
(I just need to find one now) |

Hi mytocon and again, welcome to the forum. If the interior is good on your new purchase, then I reckon it looks like you've got a good unmolested example there that has been hiding away. If you need bits then it's worth joining the club - one of our members does get to the stores occasionally and can put together some bits you if you've a list, once you've got it and been through it of course Can't quite see Reg. No. so not sure if known to the club in the past? Would you mind supplying Reg. Chassis/Body No's for our archive records? If you don't want to post on here you can mail me: the registrar with info. fastback-registrar@sunbeamrapier.co.uk Cheers and look forward to seeing progress over the coming months. G. |

Thanks for the welcome all, will be joining the club at the point I know WHAT I've got exactly, with VIN etc but can only supply the reg at the moment 'cos I don't have anything else. It's UAP 438H. I rather hope it IS an unknown one, just so it's one more saved. |

Thanks for the info. We do have a record of that one. Was last known of in East Sussex in c. 2008: so not unknown, but still potentially another saved - that's the important thing. electricnick & I have one that we must make a start on this year. Will post up some pics at some point. |
