Hello there my name is Jamie. I have just bought my 4th Rapier . My new one is a H120, Blue with white strips- Reg BKM 940K.
Can anyone tell me anything about it at all ?

Hello Jamie,
Welcome to the forum: I'm sure you'll find some useful stuff on here, both past and in the future. As for your car, the club has a record of it, so it is not an undiscovered one. No info other than we've had on record since the early 90's and it was reg'd 1/12/71.

Well, I click to post and miraculously pics appear! Coincidence or what.  Looks a nice one in possibly Baltic or Oxford Blue? Looks like someone has put or painted new stripes on it & being really fussy; the top one is too wide & I guess you're on the look out for sill covers? Club is looking at getting these reproduced, but hopefully some news on that later in the year. I think we've also still got a set of white stripes! Cheers again for the instant pics! |

Hi Jamie.... I know the guy that did all the work on it. I have a link somewhere that tells the story. As I recall he took the car to France to the big classic rally in Le Mans. I'll try to find the link for you and post it on here. Welcome from me too!

Much appreciated with the links . It's good to know the history of a car, all little bits help.
Car drives well at the moment . Had to do clutch slave and master when I first got it . Next job is to learn how to do a proper good tune up on the webbers.

Didnt know the width of the strip was thinner . Will prob re-do some time. As for sills, I have them along with loads of spares ( including a gearbox with overdrive) but I dont like them . I know they are original but I think I may re-spray the sills. What do you think ? Baltic blue is the colour.

Personally... I don't like sills at all. 2 reasons but probably the main one is corrosion. Aluminium and steel is a battery waiting to happen when water becomes the electrolyte (especially salted water in winter). Fortunately, the aluminium is the anode in the arrangement which is probably why you don't come across many second hand ones for sale. The other reason is that I prefer the deeper bodied effect that you get without them.
Is all about preference really and I accept that most folks seem to disagree with me but I wouldn't have them.

| Yes, I'll have to disagree . I think they look better with. Of course early cars had stainless steel ones, which still retained moisture, but weren't quite so harmful to bodywork. For cheapness in '69 Chrysler went for brushed ali, I'm going to stick them back on my car, but will use liberal coats of paint on the back and then some other rust proofer before fitting. |
