We are looking to replace the dilapidated static seatbelts with inertia... and have two possibilities - either with "old-style" fastener or with modern quick release (red button type). any advice of which to go for. Presumably the old style fastener was replaced for a good reason.. but what do forum members recommend ????
Hi Stella. Seeing that the Rapiers never came with seatbelts in their day there should be no 'originality' issues so why don't you go for the more comfy inertia type belts. My Ser3 still has no seatbelts so I don't know if there will be any fitting issues between the clip in's and the inertias, the law in South Africa states that vehicles 1960 and before do not need to be fitted with them. Cheers Jan
New cars sold in Britain had to be fitted with seat belts from 1967 but in '68 it became compulsory for them to be retro-fitted to all cars built from 1965 onwards. Rootes already provided mounting points in all models and the belts are listed in the Parts Lists.
