So I took the 'beam' down to have a new MOT today, bear in mind that last years went straight through.

Well it looks like the miles ive done have taken their toll and now i have a jobs list to get the new ticket.

Front brake calipers
Front brake discs and pads
Rear brake cylinders
Lower ball joints
Front struts
4 track rod ends

It was a bit of a shock as apart from the occasional knocking the drive is ok. But I have had a look for myself and there plenty of play in everything. The bill from Speedy Spares wasnt pleasent either, but im very pleased they had everything in stock.
Ill be doing all the work, with the guiding hand of my friend.
And im looking forward to it being one sweet motor afterwards.

I do have a question though - Ive ordered SPAX struts for the front as mine rides lower than standard - was i right to do this?? I dont know if your able to tell by the ride height in the pics or not

cheers, wish me luck

Ouch!

Nasty surprise you wern't expecting there mate. Still its all fairly easy to fix and better then needing loads of welding etc.

Have you have to buy complete new calipers??

And as for the struts, I presume you have to have the spax versions as there is no way I can see of utilising OE struts?

Good luck with all the work and mind your knuckles!

From what I've read on Spax's website, their struts are all ready lowered... So you might need to install original springs if yours have been lowered before... I'm really thinking about buying them to!
Let me know how they are...

I've had a look and search... I found the "younger or previous" model of your radio... which is £100 cheaper... Might be worth it!

Good luck with it mate!

If you need 'new'calipers it may be worth contacting Bigg Red Ltd of Warwick, they recondition your old ones with new pistons etc.etc. They did mine for a Series IV for less than £100.00 incl.VAT/delivery about 18 months ago).

Hi Martin
sorry to hear UMU failed its MOT (is that you or the car)

When we met up at the Bristol classic car show last month you said about a knocking from the front suspension so i suppose at least you know why now.

See you soon mate

Wow - I didn't know you could get complete struts from Spax. I put Spax inserts into my original struts - but this doesn't work well because it is almost impossible to dismantle the original strut without damaging the threads at the top of the strut body.

I would have bought complete struts instead if I'd had the choice back then.

It's many years since I tried to buy a standard front struts - are they still being manufactured outside of Iran?

Please post some pictures of the new struts when you get them - I couldn't find any on the Spax site.

If you go to spax now, you should be able to find them
If not with rapier, you will within the hunter range...
I don't know where I got it but I downloaded a PDF price list of there range... Listed the rapier with front struts and rear shocks with prices and so on...
