Does anyone have any experience with stainless steel Brake pistons? Are there any parts for other cars that can be used as a replacement and where can I buy them? Are they trouble free? Anyone with experience? What about the O-ring that fits between the two parts of the caliper?
I like a car that looks normal but can really knock you off your socks!
I have never tried it but you can probably get Wilwood calipers that will fit - but that will be a lot of money. In the past it was common to fit the brakes from an Austin Princess to Ford Escorts, Capris and many other cars - so I think you might be able to find something that fits if you spend a day at the car recycler.
It's probably easier to can get reconditioned original units from this place http://www.rootesparts.com/id210.htm in Holland. They do servos and master cylinders too. I've had a few bits from them - so far everything has been good.
Can't remember where but I heard that Rover SD1's are compatible with the Rapier stub axle for conversion. They are also 4 pot so should be better stoppers. There are other things to consider such as wheel clearances and this is obviously dependent upon your choice of wheel.
Building the 'Mark II' fastback Rapier ('Arrocuda').
Have you considered having your calipers reconditioned?I had those for my Series IV done by BiggRed Ltd. A pair of seized caplipers were totally reconditioned (rebored, new pistons etc etc)for just under £100 about 12 months ago. Regards John
