Hi All, I’ve been thinking, there seems to be a lot of us (including me) who’d like a get together somewhere, I saw Rapier Dave’s comment about a convoy to the North Yorkshire Moor’s Railway and that would be great but it’s a long way from Bristol ( and you ALL seem to live around there !). One of our Lady member’s Esti B in “George “her white fastback did it last year to Goathland in the summer - I believe she won an award for the furthest travelled - and I wish I had known because I was only a few miles away in Pickering that day. Anyway if as it would seem, a lot of us want it. would or could the committee organise a rally as in 2008 somewhere near Oxford I believe it was as that’s a bit more central for most of us and as it will then be three years since an annual SROC rally it could be a great success, I was going then but my employer called and that was that. So come on SROC committee see if you think you can drum up enough support and get organising, and anyone who’s up for it could put a posting here to support the motion as it were, Best Regards

I think the best bet would be to have a club presence/stand at an organised show rather than trying to do our own. It was always the organising and stewarding that used to kill it. There is usually a good show at blenheim palace incorporating "rootes" day, run by Andrew greenwood, suggest we use that one??

Sounds good to me Jason, I just hope I'll be onshore when it's on, that's where we were going in 2008, had a hotel booked in Oxford for the weekend and were all set, then the phone went!. Anyway that suggestion sounds great to me as long as we could all get together piggybacking another event seems just the job Regards

Blenheim Palace sounds a great idea. It was the last National SROC that i attended in 2008, that was before i sold my Fastback Rapier (pictured below)
I went to Blenheim palace this year and although the weather was showery it was still a great day out, only one other fastback in the Rootes area though.
Blenheim Palace car show & Rootes gathering is on August 28th & 29th 2011(Sunday & Monday) So it would be possible to make a weekend of it or for those of us closer travel both days. We could if enough people are interested block book an hotel near to the site for the Sunday night with perhaps people coming from further afield staying Saturday night also. I will check out hotels/accomodation in the area with prices and post up here once i have some info.

Sounds like a plan could be forming. I would rather stay over if I was attending both days but only if we could find a SAFE hotel, not taking any chances. Perhaps admin can move this thread over to club gatherings and in the new year well get something in cut & thrust so more people will be aware of our plans.
For all us South Westers (sorry Dave) I will look to arrange regular monthly meets anyway when the weather improves, we can vary the venue or settle for somewhere central depending on peoples preferences.

Yes it sounds like something could be starting to happen, I have already found a hotel nearby which has facilities for us Lepers (smokers!) and she who must be obeyed has always wanted to spend a day or so in Oxford so providing I’m on shore I’m definitely up for it. As for you south westerners I think it’s great that something’s happening somewhere Jason, it’s just a pity there isn’t more Rapiers around here. Best Regards
