My part's books lists the same speedo for auto and manual.

Hmmm - to be honest I've no idea!

Hmm, interesting. That might be something I consider for mine then, shame I've just spent umpteen hours stripping my axle back to bare metal and painting it

I also have the speedo from the auto so could I do a straight swap??

Don't worry, I think I am just getting a bit confused!

I didn't realise the 3.89 diff was fitted to all those other models. The thing that threw me was the reference to the fastback alpine having the 3.89 diff, I assumed it would be the same as the rapier.

I have an axle that I took out of a fastback auto and I was trying to establish if it was suitable - I think I've got it now!

Eh?
The rear axles from any car in the entire Hunter/Arrow range will fit - the only difference is the ratio. The H120 uses a 3.89 ratio and so do lots of other cars in the Arrow range.

So he could use the axle from:
H120
or
Humber Sceptre saloon,
Fastback Alpine,
Hunter 1725 estate,
Hunter 1500,
Hunter saloon 1725 with optional overdrive.

All these use a 3.89 axle and the complete axle or just the diff unit be bolted right on to an H120.

There might be a few more - I don't have the parts book to hand.

OK good, so in that case he does need to find an H120 specific diff, not one fitted to any of the 1725 range

Nooo - you are reading the manual correctly. The standard manual gearbox Rapier was always built with a 4.22 diff. It isn't one of the cars they fitted the 3.89 to.

But remember that all the 3.89 diffs are the same, it's not special for the H120.

There were also fitted to Humber Sceptre saloon, fastback Alpine, Hunter estate cars, Hunter 1500. Probably any Hunter with a 1725 and an overdrive box will have one.

I was looking at the workshop manual over the weekend and the diff is listed as different on the H120 compared to the std rapier 3.89 v 4.22, unless I am reading it wrong??

Hmmm - The Parts Book is "SUNBEAM RAPIER SERIES I-V" but the page (see plate ref AB24 near the top) clearly lists "VI".
Perhaps it should be "IV"?
There's no such thing as a series VI - doh.
