cheers for that, yea it would appear that 70's metal was a bit substandard lol, i can relate to you concentrating on one venture and i aggree that time to spare can be a major factor, my old man was retired so spent ALL his time messing with his cars, he also had four garages so had plenty of storage/workshop space, alas mine is on the drive at the mercy of the elements, the weathers nice at the mo so im gonna have a go at running her up, fingers crossed lol, cheers, mart.

Oxidising comes as standard on most all 70's cars as you can see from so many threads on here. Mine has had a lot of metal replaced (all the lower panels and some of the floor) and is likely that there are still dodgy areas that have been repaired and painted over in its past. Only way to be sure is to completely strip the car of paint.
Can be hard to get the time to spend on major works as I'm finding at the moment too but I'm committed to completing even if I have to wait it out. Have sold most all my other cars so as to give this one the best chance as too many cars can become unmanageable if your not careful. If there's anything your not sure about..... take some pics and put them up on here. Is very likely that someone has already been faced with the same problem and can advise you from practical experience.

hi bud, sorry for the delay on replying, (havn't been on for a while), well my in intention was to get it back to being pretty again, i needed a rear brake hose and had to sort out the side light fittings, done the side lights and then as life does had a lot of other things that sidelined me, i have checked out the prices from speedy spares (thanks for that info) and WHEN things level out again i will pursue my goal, at the mo its a battle against nature, i.e rain crud weather = rust, i had a cover and some dirtbag pinched it, also gotta get a carb service kit as when i tried to run her the carbs was belting out fuel, i assume that any 'o' rings/rubbers in the carbs have perished or shrunk and a service kit would be the sensible way to go? have since had a guy asking me to sell it to him and he left number, trouble is the plan me and my bro had was to get our cars(he has my dads spartan kit car)up to running/legal spec and take a trip to my dads fave place and scatter his ashes, dont know if its my old man pulling strings from beyond the grave but me and my bro having endless hurdles along the way, thats the state of play at the mo, thanks for your intrest and info, if you have any tips/advice on the car i would allways be gratefull, cheers, mart.

Some of the pics were posted by the original builder of the car IIRC. TBH I'm not sure that the side panels work for me but I love the extended rear fins and the front grille.
What work have you got planned for the car?

Hi Martin, I remember chatting to him at a SROC national rally and seeing the car close up. The time and effort he had put into the car was obvious. It would be good to see the car at another rally.
Panels and trim can be hard to find, but normal service parts and bits that wear out (brakes etc) are reasonably easy to get from specialist suppliers. Got to the SROC home page (click on the Home link at the top of the page) and find the Links and check out the Motorsport and Rootes Parts Suppliers. There is also Speedy Spares (find them at http://www.speedyspares.co.uk/).

Interesting car you have there Martin.... someone posted some pics of it on my build thread. I'll post them here for the rest to see.

'Some frenching going on' is a hell of an understatement! Also... featured car in 'Custard Cart' magazine. Welcome to the board!!
