Thanks for that info Derek, but by the looks of the timing of the photo it looks like a figure of 10 mpg has been announced to the (owner?) standing next to the car . Seriously though that's a good looking Series machine & with webers it must be unique on the African continent. Glen.
For all of us still using imperial measures: 13.5 kms to 1 litre = 61.29km per imperial gallon = 38 miles per gallon = Very good indeed.
My 1840 Holbay Fastback would average 26mpg (9.1 kms/litre) or a little better on normal use and 30mpg (10kms/liter)on a long run. Fuel consumption on the 1840 with twin webers was a little better than the 1725 engine on strombergs and much faster
A few of us from the Zululand Car Club went for a Sunday spin to Saint Lucia . Had seafood platters for lunch and went down to the estuary +_ 110 miles round trip.It was fun . The Rapier behaved well except that the gearbox started jumping in and out of o/drive and I had to hold the gear lever to the right all the way back.I screwed out the o/d switch at home , took out one washer and it's ok now.Fuel consumption with the webers , it used an average of 13.5 km's to 1 litre driving at average 100 kph. Twice I filled the clock - easy - just to hear the webers and brag past the Chev Camaro V8 , the owner says it reminded him of his Alfa days.
