That's pretty much bang on to be honest. My fastback has the servo down low and washer bag on the bulkhead as did the very early arrow Sceptre that i had a few years ago. Not sure of the date they changed though, i had a G reg H120 many years ago (i scrapped it but is the biggest regret of my fastback ownership and a decision that still haunts me to this day ) and the servo was also on the bulkhead.

Early rhd brochures for Hunters in general show the washer bag on the bulkhead as standard, with optional servo mounted on the siderail. Reckon they moved away from that at around 69MY and put the washer bag hanging on the battery bracket at that point.

Finally made this picture of my car...
You can see where they have originally placed the brake servo.

hey guys, thats quite a funny one. I used to have a 1973 fastback, which had the servo and watet washer bottle in the same places as mine, so always thought that was the standard place for them.
But now ive seen the H120's, which has a different set up, i guess they used both.

Looking again thought it does look slightly odd.
well spotted

ps after getting UMU completly covered in road salt, ive realised that, that cant happen again, so ive thoroughly cleaned and locked it up for winter - boowhoo
Bring on the spring!!!

I don't think so.
On my grand dad 's rapier and mine and also on our humber sceptre (all left hand drive),
the brake servo is put where the brake and clutch master cilinders are placed on a right hand drive car. This way obviously u avoid the steering box.

I have vague memories of seeing a servo there too instead of the bulkhead.
Is that where are they put them on left hand drive cars to avoid the steering column and master cylinders?

Is an H120 exhaust manifold for sure.... also I notice that the brake servo unit is not on the bulkhead as is mine. Was this a mod' for some reason cos I don't believe I've noticed one like it before?

Building the '2nd series' fastback Rapier ('Arrocuda').

Yes it looks like an H120 manifold. The standard manifold is only 2 branch.

Evidence there that the exhaust manifold fits on the standard head OK (unless its a holbay head)??

Just another small question...

Where did you get the exhaust manifold?
Doesn't seem like an original one!

The car is relatively sound...

There's
- A hole on the right side in the boot
- The left chassis rail under the front footwell is rotten
- The front wing is rotten on the end
- The corners on the fronts wings both need to be replaced
- The doors need attention
- And all surface rust...
and probably there are still some other things I don't know yet, but I would like to get to know this before winter starts...

When the work on our Triumph Stag is done on which we are working nowadays. - New engine (blown head gasket and then a bad engine rebuild job) - New steering rack, was also badly rebuild by the same men who did the engine... Luckily we have another one that is going into place next weekend.

When this is done, I hope to convince my dad and grand-dad, to get my car out off the back of the garage.
So that
1: I can see what has to be added to the "to do"-list...
2: I can get cracking on it!!!

In about 3 years I'll be able and allowed to drive a car...
And I hope it's finished by then.
I would really love to meet you and some other Rapier enthousiasts...
And off course see your beauty!
So my first BIG trip will be to England!

Thanks for the courage, and I'll try to make as many pics of the whole restoration!!!

Hey Thomas

I kinda replied on the other thread, but thought it would be best to reply on this one too.

In the photo your car looks pretty sound, with really good bodywork - ive heard before that the better a car is when you start to restore it, the better the finish will be, so looks like your on to something with this one.

Godd luck bud

@ UMU
My car is '68 fastback, I 've posted about it on the forum.
http://www.sunbeamrapier.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=237
My granddad gave me the opportunity to choose a car, and because the rapier will make a nice daily driver and was just standing there in the back of the garage. I took my choise. It only needs some work done to it...

I'm only 15 years old. But I've been working on our cars alone since I've had the age of 13. But I've been in the garage with my dad and grand dad passing spanners and other since I've been 10 or younger.

By the way, your car is a real example for me...
A nice car with beautiful wheels, color and road clearance (I like a car that doesn't have to much room between the wheelarches and tyre)

The car my dad drove me home in, when I was born, was a Triumph Stag MK2 so, you can aesily say I've almost been born in an old car.

We also have a few alpines and some other triumphs.

Hi All, I had a problem with the matting or insulation under the bonnet too - it kept falling off!- I tried sticking it back on with various things but it wouldn't work so I took the plunge and ripped it all off then scrubbed under the bonnet with methalated spirit using those little foam pan scrubbers to shift all the glue etc (took me ages)then I painted it with smooth dark mettalic Hammerite using a brush and it was the darndest thing, the brush marks smoothed out and the colour is almost an exact match in fact no-one has ever noticed unless I pointed it out!

Hey interesting comment.
Whats your car like then. are there any photos anywhere for us to see.

Really pleased to hear your so enthusiastic about these cars.
Do you mind me asking how old you are as you sound as young as me, if not younger!!

Rapier fastbacks run in my family too, with my Grandad, dad and me all having one or more.
cheers
