Yes, looks to be a goody. Not much past info about it in our club history. Chap who owned it for years couldn't have been a club member. Previous chap was, but looks like he did not have it for long. Welcome to the forum btw & hope people can help you out as you progress with your tidying up of the old girl . G.

Hello Paul, just to say congratulations on your purchase and I'm glad she's solid underneath - I hope you get as much pleasure from her as we do from ours, I remember an in depth advert for this car a couple of years ago and I don't think you'll find much filler as it would appear she was treasured for years by someone whom I believe is no sadly longer with us, I hope the novelty doesn't wear off as it seems to have done with the last couple of owners
Best Regards

Brilliant News, Just got it off the ramps and it is really solid, just need to get some fresh Waxoyle on. The old chap whose ramp I used ( normally miserable as sin) was like a kid on Christmas Day,he was raving about the old Rapiers and how they don't build them like they used to!

Anyway best go do some work....

Hi 1922, Sound like a a good idea.

Probably going to run it as a daily drive until the winter then pull off the road in the winter.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Hanley,
Front wings always rot on the spot welded joint a couple of inches in front of the door (a mud trap) and the pointy bit at the front (also a mud trap), they are often sound elsewhere.
As far as I know the only front wings you can buy are hand made and judging by a friends experience will need a certain amount of 'adjustment' to fit properly.
My advice would be to repair the originals and fabricate some plastic or fibreglass liners (like a modern car) to keep the mud out in the future.

Probably wrong section but picked the rapier up today...1oo miles in pouring rain and didn't miss a beat

Up on the ramps tomorrow for a good look and poke around.

Interior is excellent apart from slight tear on drivers seat and three cracks on dashboard also will need new seat belts as some point.

Exterior as expected, will require front wings or part panel, bit of bubbling on door and a ding in the roof (minor) I am sure there will be a few pounds of filler and worse lurking but so far so good

All MOT's ever, loads of bills including a lifetime guarantee on the exhaust fitted in 1976

Chuffed to bits!

Hi. I'd just like to add that just last may's classic's monthly did a feature comparing a MGB V8 a 3 litre Crapi and an H120 and the Rapier came out on top overall!, I've seen the article on the internet but it's not available as a back issue and I've been trying to get one but without any luck so far

No problem, always happy to help if I can. PC website is worth a look, they have a 'parts interchangeable guide' or pig for short. It shows all parts that can be used across makes and models, very useful.

Oh that is a good one, I haven't laughed so hard in ages!!

Seriously, I expect someone somewhere has some original steel wings hidden away but I wouldn't like to guess how much they would be worth

Your best bet is Alpine West Midlands who list a selection of repair sections for fastbacks or complete fibreglass wings for £80.

Here is a link to their website - http://www.sunbeam-alpine.co.uk/

Just look for the 'Fastback and Hunter' link which will eventually lead you to a parts brochure.

I have a copy of it if you get stuck and could send you the relevant pages.

Jason.
