DVLA/VOSA really are a bunch of useless somethings, I've had similar problems and it takes an age to get anything resolved. I'm glad to hear you had a successful outcome.
OT, @Janmarine, whereabouts in SA are you? I get to Jo'burg now and then (Sandton) Cheers |

Hi Dave and guys , Here in SA we call it COR - certificate of roadworthiness. I asked one day about the discount I heard of that one is entitled to when cars are older than 50 years, but it was such a long procedure and big story for a few bucks off that I left it as is. As if they do us such a BIG favour and don't we dare forget it... To the guys that know how the paperwork operates : is it possible to pick up any information from the UK about vehicles that were shipped to SA - For example if I should give someone abroad the info and numbers of my vehicle would they pick up any info or history about my vehicle ?

Well as it's nearly time to put her to bed for the winter I thought I'd better get a move on so I phoned them up and suprisingly they were actually very nice about it. I took the car to Darlington where an inspector verified it was a Rapier H120 and they changed the database and Newcastle had got it wrong. there was no charge so I suppose the moral is as Jim says check the documents before you leave. Best Regards

The moral to this story is not to leave the garrage until you have checked the certificate thoroughly. Whne I took my VP 4litre R for its first "digital" test it took ages to make the stupid computer agree what it was, and then it managed to change its chassis number without any of us noticing. DVLA unfortunatly are a bunch of useless t***ers and are also a law unto themselves. People have taken them to court and won before now, but it takes a brave soul!
Regards, Jim Gough

In theory the change of government would suggest a possible reinstatement of the 5 year review that the Labour government abolished, but given the present state of the nation's finances, I think it very unlikely it will happen in the short to medium term. Would be a tough decision for the government to defend if they were to reinstate it. Bearing in mind that most all of these cars (30 years +) do very small mileages perhaps a 6 month nominal fee for say £25 to cover the show season and summer months driving would have made more sense.
Building the '2nd series' fastback Rapier ('Arrocuda'). |

Wonder if anyone else has had this problem, took my Rapier for it's mot on wednesday and was delighted it went straight through A OK but when I got home and looked at the certificate it's been changed to a Talbot Sunbeam!! so I went back to the mot station and they were astonished but said they could'nt do anything as that's what comes up on VOSA database and I'd have to contact them so at £1.50 a minute I did. They blamed the garage BUT even if it was the garage ( which I'm sure it wasn't I've known the chap for years) the garage can't change it back only they can (so the garage can change it but can't change it back? I suspect porky pies here)and gave me a Newcastle number to ring, I did and guess what - I have to take the car to Darlington where one of VOSA's vehicle inspectors will inspect it to verify it's a Rapier (for a fee of course) and then they will change the database - Brilliant!! what a bunch of lying idiots. And whilst I'm at it for how many more years am I going to have to pay road tax? at 35 years old I reckon the government must have had three times the cost of the car when new in tax it's about time the tax exemption date was brought forward Regards Etc
