Great news that another Rapier is about to go on the road. Ethynol not a real problem...yet. Standard unleaded is supposed to contain 5%, but not all brands do. 10% content is shortly supposedly being introduced, but the Govt hasn't approved that yet. Either way, if you buy Super Unleaded from any brand, Ethynol will not be included either now, or on the introduction of 10% in standard unleaded. So I'm buying Super unleaded for all my classics. Sure it's bit more expensive but for the mileage travelled it's a small price to pay...and it's 99 octane! - Better for the older cars too. Derek |

Hi Stella
This image is from a few years ago before the front wings had to be replaced due to rust. I will upload a more recent image the next time I get it out the garage.
I live in Cumbria in Northern England. Matthew |

Hi Matt.. welcome to the Forum
I have a 1966 Series V Rapier.. it's great fun car..
Can you post us a picture of yours ??
Depends on your finances of course.. and how much you intend to use the car.. but if you do get the valve seats changed...go the extra mile and make sure you change the rubber seals etc which can be damaged by the Ethynol 'cos that can wreak havoc (another expert will surely give you more details)
My engine runs on unleaded (done long before I acquired the car) but of course the rubbers are NOT Ethynol proof, so we have to watch out at the pumps ...
Whereabouts are you based. There are several good suppliers, depends on your country/region etc..
regards
Stella

Hello,
I am currently restoring a 1967 Series V rapier that had been off the road for around 15 years, luckily it had been dry stored in a garage for all of that time so the body work is in good condition! Before starting this restoration I knew little about mechanics however now I am feeling a lot more confident in my abilities.
After a few months of fiddling I managed to get her started and ticking over, the car has only done 41,000 miles and I have found no obvious problems with the engine other than the clutch not working which I am hoping will be an easy fix! I am having a dilemma as to whether I should get the valve seats changed in the cylinder head or whether I should just used leaded additives, I am sure others have been in this situation so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also any links to websites which are good for parts would be brilliant as up to now I have found it difficult to find parts! Thanks |
