A NOTE ON THE 2011 AGM FROM THE FASTBACK SPARES SECS. VIEW-POINT

I arranged to give El Presidente (Reg Guy) a lift up to the AGM on the 10th April, which, at short notice, had been switched to Buckingham Railway Museum at Quainton (off the A41 Bicester – Aylesbury road) from Coventry Motor Museum due to the latter having display parking issues.

We held our 2007 rally at Quainton & it is a really good venue; this time we were closer to the museum facility itself with a small area reserved for Rapier parking. It was a decent day – not as hot as currently – but a fine dry day nevertheless & we hoped for a good turnout. I was late due, partly due to under-estimating the time taken on a route that crossed the poor ‘A’ roads of Salisbury Plain & partly because I had the trailer with me, which meant when I realised I was late I couldn’t press on too much. Oh, no, I’m afraid to say that once again I wasn’t in a Rapier – an Audi once again…….one day!

So, Reg & I arrived about halfway through proceedings, so I cannot really summarise what happened in the meeting until that point & in any case a report will appear in C & T in the future. We had been allocated a smallish room directly off of the main museum concours, but it was sufficient for our needs with about 20 members + the committee present. Had a few more turned up we would have been struggling a bit for space, but it was adequate for our needs on the day. I had (unfortunately) arrived in time to do my bit on Spares & Web Site before we moved from reports from officers onto other matters on the agenda.

These included support for LAO’s and the events in their area, in other words maintaining our ELR (Enhanced Local Rally) initiative from last year. There was an update from Tim on the Rootes Archive Trust. Also, after the election of officers, we had a change of Chairman, with Mike Langley standing down to concentrate on Series spares & Derek Athey taking over quite literally there and then to run the rest of the meeting. I was voted in as Vice-chair to relieve Tim of this task & leave him free to deal with Archive Trust matters & ARCC.

There was of course the presentation of the Gerry Spencer Memorial Trophy & Meech Shield. The latter went to Rob & Simon Green for their superb Maroon Series V (LPE 867D) now in its 3rd generation of family ownership. Peter & Anita, who are always at our AGM’s, choose the best car in their opinion, from the assembled cars. Incidentally Series cars were well represented, only one Fastback, that of Pete Wormold; still looking resplendent in its Bitter Green livery. Oh & the former trophy went to me: total surprise & totally unprepared, so you will see some scruffy herbert being presented with this fine trophy by out-going chairman Mike at some point, in C & T I expect.

After proceedings were drawn to a close & all details taken by our dependable Gen Sec. Ron Atherton, who is thankfully staying on in the role this year; unlike our Regalia Officer, Lorraine Kirby who is having to stand down due to pressure of work and other commitments. We thank all of those out-going & re/newly elected officers for giving their time to help run the club. Yes, after a short break there was a short committee meeting, mainly to arrange committee meetings for the year ahead. This then broke & we adjourned outside for chats with old friends before leaving to go our separate ways. A good day was had by all who attended.

Glen Mason,
Fastback Spares Sec.
FOR ONE MORE YEAR!

El Presidente (Reg Guy), & the 2 Spares Secs. take time out from chatting to pose for a photo.
