Hi guys. I have 17" mags and low profiles on my Rapier, and when cornering the rear tyres rub on the body on the inside - especially on the right side. I have spacers in already, and can't add any more because of not enough safe thread left on the studs.Are there longer wheelstuds available and is it advisable/safe to replace pse.

I've seen special spacers made for a De Tomaso Pantera where the spacer bolted to the hub using the original studs. The spacer had it's own set of studs that the wheel fixed to. The spacer was about an inch thick or maybe more (I think - it was a long time ago).

I don't know if such things are available for a series Rapier - but it probably wouldn't cost a fortune to get some made.

Do you own a De Tomaso Pantera?? As i remember seeing one and chating to to on one of the rapier national days.

Not anymore - couldn't afford the petrol at 11 miles per gallon.
Sold it a couple of years back.
But yes - that was me at the National - only time I ever won a cup!

I do miss it sometimes, not enough leg room or head room and very expensive to run. But a fantastic noise and scary fast.

There a great looking car fetching good money now to.

11miles to the gallon that is scary!!
Worse than my range rover 4.6HSE that did about 14 to the gallon!

Thanks, I had a look at the spacers, they can work , still thinking about what I want to do.
I read an interesting article on the net - when one lowers a vehicle, as in lower profiles etc. the diff tends to move outward , left or right , mostly to the right. Panhard rods and other mods are mentioned to solve the problem.
One has to watch again when moving outward too with spacers as not to foul the fender again.
17" mags with 205/14 low profile Dunlops on a 1960 model vehicle.....has to be a glitch here and there not ?

Sometimes I wish I kept it. I bought it for 19k, spend 7k on and sold it for 26k. I saw it advertised last year for 36k!!

I now know that I could have converted it to run on LPG for a less than five hundred quid, that would have halfed the cost of fuel (or better). But it would still be short of leg and head room - and I'm only 5'9"! Early Panteras are designed for people under 5'6", if you are any taller the seat doesn't go back far enough (alternator is in the way), the seat head rest is level with your shoulder blades and your head is only a half inch from the roof.

One day, when I'm stinking rich and have a bigger garage, I'll buy another one. It'll be a later 1990s one with the smaller 5 litre engine so the seat goes back further, the floor is lower and the seats are bigger.

For the moment I'll have to be content with 2 fastbacks, a '46 Minx, a Harley and a Vectra (for getting to work in). Unfortunately only the Harley and the Vectra are roadworthy
