Hi All,

I have recently discovered that a Mk5 Rapier that my Dad owned between 1968 and 1976 is still taxed according to the DVLA. Its original colour was brownn with a white roof.

I will post a couple of pics later when I work out how to do it just in case its current owner is a member of the forum and would like to see it when it was nearly new!

Really pleased to find out it is still around.

As promised a picture of PLG464D in the late 60's/early 70's. Sorry if a bit blurry - was taken of slide image.

I have a couple more pictures - will upload if this one is successful!

No record of it on d'base club has, but our Series Registrar may know better
Odd it shows Reg Date of 4/2/82 & no MOT on record, even though recently taxed. G.

Thank you...I thought it was probably a bit of a long shot.

I too was confused with the reg. date of 1982, but also says 1965 as year of manufacture which would be correct. The colour now just says White but was originally Brown/White. We understand this colour combination was not detailed in the brochure for a Mk5.

Prior to the Mk5 my dad owned a Mk1 Rapier (EJC 348) - guess this is long gone. It was pale brown/cream, with a floor shift / overdrive.

Yes, no trace of EJC 348 as you surmised. Series I's very rare - like Series II's; they were not thought of as classics at the time and by the time they were there it was when Series III & IIIA's would otherwise have been scrapped, but that's my theory as to why more of these survive, even though a similar no. of II & III's were made. c. 15,000 from memory. Only around 7,500 Series I's - again that's only from memory, but c. 68,000 Series cars made in total, so not that many really. Sounds like the Series one your dad owned was a later version that had the floor change - early ones were column change - & I expect it had the twin zenith carbs too: a great pity more did not survive. G.
