Posted - 06 Oct 2011 : 09:51:47 I really need a 1,592 Alpine Marine engine but they're made of unobtanium so I'm reconstructing one.
The spec. is the same as the Series II Alpine which is the same as the Series IIIa Rapier but with 85bhp instead of 80bhp but I believe the cam and distributor are the same (according to WSM124) and the difference is all down to the carbs and I have the original twin Zeniths from an Alpine Marine engine. (If anyone knows of any other differences - please let me know!)
So what I'm looking for is a 1961 1,592cc engine complete with ancillaries including the old-style oil filter, distributor and the thermostat housing where the thermostat sits on top, not on the front and preferably with the dynamo.
To swap, I have a 1,724 which I'm told is from a Fastback although the engine number is 8E1385070B which is a series I don't know. It's complete with twin Strombergs and alternator but the exhaust manifold has been marinised and has drillings for water injection.
Alternatively, I'm happy to buy a IIIa engine for a sensible price.
My Alpine won't float!I need one which does!!

Posted - 16 Nov 2011 : 23:09:32 Still looking . . . . . . and I might be prepared to swap a Holbay complete with inlet manifold (not "uprighted") and twin 40DCOE carbs with very short trumpets plus a front mounting plate for upright installation in a Series car in exchange for a Series IIIa engine plus cash.
