Posted - 18 Feb 2024 : 11:02:16 Hi Trevor,
Thanks for the advice, I will investigate within a few months. If you want to see a photo of my Rapier you can find this on this website in the Galery. It is the second picture in the chapter Series IV with license number FJ-66-00 and by the time the photo was taken it was ownd by the former owner. Does your Rapier, like mine, has synchromesh on the first gear and is the interior black skai with white piping?

Posted - 18 Feb 2024 : 09:37:18 Peter the wavering of the speedo is usually caused by oil in the drag cup of the speedo, a good clean which is easy to do will solve the issue I will in time check out the tyres and diff etc currently car is in dock having brakes done front to back
cheers trevor

Posted - 17 Feb 2024 : 12:13:11 Hi Trevor,
It happens that my Rapier has also 185/70/13 tyres and the deviaton of the speedometer is quite limited with the 3.89 differential. When the speedometer shows for example 80 km/h then in reality it should have been about 83 km/h so it reads a little low (about 4%) and I can live with that. I have also a Sunbeam Tiger and that speedometer is horrendous, wavering needle and it is guessing what speed I am driving, but this should sorted out before this summer.

Posted - 15 Feb 2024 : 10:25:51 Hi Peter
yes I have given that some thought , I do have a spare 3.89 Diff which I could use my car currently has 185/70 tyres which have the same effect I am due for new tyres shortly so I will check some road speed figures and see what to do. The 185 tyres are a bit big I feel

Posted - 07 Feb 2024 : 11:48:34 Hi Trevor,
The colour of the Rapier Series IV looks now a little greenish instead of the silvir colour I assumed it has on sight of the first bigger photo. How come? By the way I also installed on my Rapier Series IV a 3.89 differential instead of the 4.22 differential which goes with the overdrive. This change is really worthwile to do, I can assure you.

Posted - 29 Jan 2024 : 09:20:06 Welcome on this forum Trevor. It happens that I own a Sunbeam Rapier Series IV (1965) too which has the same colour scheme as yours. My Rapier also has the mini lite rims. I installed an electric fuel pump and also the well known conversion (Weber carburettor plus special intake manifold) which is delivered by Alpine Innovations in the Uk. This Rapier has also the desired overdrive installed.
