Posted - 17 Aug 2013 : 11:02:58 Hi, everyone just a short note to say ive bought a 1974 rapier h120, its orange with polished wolfrace alloys the bodywork and chassis is solid no welding required, im in the process of tyding it up , it has sat of the road on sorn for a few years in a dry garage. I have freed of the brakes so it moves, result. I have replaced all ignition components leads 8mm, plugs champion, lucus high performance coil, distributor cap rotor points and condensor new battery as well, the twin 40s have been stripped and cleaned so hopefully when I get back down during the week it will fire up, interior wise it needs a new carpet , any info on where I can buy would be appreciated, also I would like the stainless steel sill covers .the regstration plate is psc417m. Any info on car would be greatly appreciated, I think its a edinburgh plate , I live near stirling in central scotland so I think it might have been up here all its days its just a guess. Oh iv still to check out the electrics lights dont work etc etc . Cheers stuart

Posted - 20 Sep 2013 : 20:40:11 Hi andy I havent got the carpet set yet, I just recieved an e.mail from ian sims saying that he is in the process of manufacturing them from a pattern he has for a 1968 fastback, so once I get them fitted I will let you know. Im getting another garage built onto the house just now so the rapier is on hold just now, once the garage is built I will have more time to get on with the car. Im going to try some pictures next to let you guys see it, cheers stuart

Posted - 19 Sep 2013 : 18:12:46 Just a little thank you derek, I managed to get a full carpet set for my h120 at last, they arent easy to come by are they. The price was very good actually including delivery £170 all in from ian sims .

You could try Car Hoods, run by Ian Sims email: sims_ian@hotmail.com I've just finished fitting a set of their carpets to my Series IV. Bit of tweaking here and there, but excellent finish and quality - polyester at £150 with bound edges and door card sections inc! Not sure if they have Fastback patterns, but I would have thought so. I was amazed they had SIV/V patterns as they are even rarer. Fast turnaround too. Well pleased. Derek |

Posted - 23 Aug 2013 : 21:52:08 Result, spent an hour with the rapier today and got it started wooohoooo im well chuffed.had to slacken the distributor and set the timing slightly as the same as the haynes manual says , it was a bit spluttery for a minute , then to my amazment it sat idiling perfectly , its very responsive when operating throttle linkage at the carbs it revs cleanly no misfire or hesitation , so it pays not to cut corners and being patient, the only problem I had was two neds who thought it was the same car as the dukes of hazzard because its orange, haha. Anyway thats it for 2wks I can go on holiday knowing its coming along nicely, I will get pictures up when I get back from hols . Cheers stuart.

Posted - 19 Aug 2013 : 10:16:10 I had the dirty fuel problem but no flakey bits caused by corrosion in the tank above the old fuel level
I didn't really want to disturb the tank but it was straight forward to remove I have been quoted £240+vat to cut the tank open patch up and seal the inside I thought it was fairly expensive but i've gone to far to cut corners
ps the tanks are baffled inside so its not easy to see all areas
tank should be ready tomorrow

Posted - 19 Aug 2013 : 08:41:58 ^^^Agree with the above, all worth doing. My car is also a '71 and I had no issues with the tank internally after a long lay up. However....the outside of the tank has some matting stuck to it in places and the contact adhesive had eaten through the paint and caused some rust, some areas of the seem were a bit scabby too. So I stripped it down, applied some rust converter and re-painted. It should be good now for a few more years
So it might be worth whipping it out just to check.

Posted - 18 Aug 2013 : 22:22:49 Hi Stuart, Taking the tank out is very straightforward, although the jubilee clips on the filler hose (between tank and filler cap fitting) require some serious contortion! Before you do that though, two things to check first. One, put 3-4 galls in the tank, get some mates and rock the car mightily while letting the fuel drain- you can get a 1 gallon ice cream container under the car for it to drain into, and see what comes out. If clear move on to phase two... Get one of those inspection mirrors (like dentists use) in through the filler cap with a very bright torch and have a good look round- you never know, you might just not need to pull the tank... My H120 was off the road for 4-5 years, and was built in 1971, but the fuel I drained was clear as a bell. The lining appears to be intact, and no bits are clogging the filter at present...! Last thing is to blow through the fuel line from the pump end with compressed air. Luck! ATB David |

Posted - 18 Aug 2013 : 19:36:10 Hi guys thanks for the welcomes most appreciated, I will try and get some pictures of my h120 on this week if not will need to be in few weeks time as of on holiday next saturday for 2 weeks. Thanks for the tip about the dodgy lights I will have a look and check the wiring where you said, can anyone tell me where to order the s/steel sill covers that are on the pictures of your cars , they arent on mine ,can the club supply them ?new fuel pump just fitted today and fesh oil and filter fitted so hopefully it will fire up during the week, just leaves the new water pump to fit that I bought , im going to start it with a gallon can of fresh fuel and new fuel line , I have read about the coating coming away inside the tank iv still to remove the tank and check it out so will see what happens during the week . Posted - 17 Aug 2013 : 22:37:23 Hi Stuart1970, Welcome to the band of H120 owners and good luck with the resto. I had an intermittent problem with my lights and traced it to a dodgy connection where the wiring harness meets the fuse box. Not the easiest place to reach, but worth a look- also worth checking the fuse fit in those spring metal connectors- don't take much corrosion to make them misbehave! ATB David |
