Anyone fancy owning the car that inspired the Sunbeam Rapier Fastback.
This is the car that Roy Axe allegedly copied as he was a big fan of the styling. They do look remarkably similar. Not a bad price as well (when you consider the pile of junk I looked at recently was just under £3,000 less, The shed-of-a-yellow H120) I'm tempted...

Always thought it was strange that no one in Rootes was familiar with the Chrysler product range in 1964, the year that Chrysler first bought shares in the Rootes Group.

I've got Roy Axe's autobiography - he denies ever seeing the Barracuda before he styled the Rapier.
I guess we have to believe him

Is correct! Only took Andy 2 minutes to get that..... I'm impressed. These were the days when plagiarism was the name of the game.... they even nicked the name! The 'Hawk'eyed members of this forum may also recognise the front end off of the Sunbeam Alpine/Tiger model on another well known American car?

Rumours also had it that Roy's predecessors at Rootes were heavily influenced by this model.
I'll just leave it here and see if anyone knows what it is!

now thats a really nice car,thing is whats the situation with getting parts for it? I would imagine that might be a problem. the sloping back is actually nicer then on the rapier. LHD might be a problem or not for some people. i would always welcome a review if you do go and see it Moresy :) |

There was a RHD one on the bay a couple of years ago that I posted on here (I think), and was also tempted to bid. Measured my garage and found that I would need to extend it by 397mm so as I could shut the door! Either that, leave it outside or move house. I decided not to bid as yanks don't stand up too well to the great British weather.

even the steering wheel is similar
shame the rapier didn't get the v8....mmm how about an allegro replica
