I have done all that I always wanted to do to a ser 3 since I was 15 yrs old and a hot one roared past my Hillman minx that was flat out .
I guess we all have a dream that will elude us, and mine is to have all the mechanicals off a Holbay in mine eventually.Top engine, gearbox , diff & suspension.

Ah, ok! big wheels and tyres there.

Many things are geometrically possible of course, but the prove out is being done on the road rather than on the track in the hands of the original engineers, so there is always a bit more risk attached. I bet they never did knuckle durability sign-offs on 17" wheels for example. Just have to go into these things with eyes open to potential problems. Anyway, Rootes were usually pretty conservative with their engineering, which helps somewhat.

Hi guys, FYI - 17" mags & 205 Dunlop low profiles on my ser 3 , just one problem , which I only found out after riding - the right rear rim rubs on the chassis inside when cornering hard to the left or mounting uneven surfaces. I have 6 mm spacers all round, but I need a few more mm's in the rear , which means longer studs ( not enough thread for safety )and I have to pull the axles because the studs won't come out .Handling is perfect but the steering is heavy when parking .Still have to find studs somewhere...

Dunlop D1 alloys look good. There are some copies now available which should bring down the price of real ones to a more sensible level. This car's ones might actually be Exactons which are from the later Avenger Tiger.
I did some careful looking at the repro D1 ones and the offset is huge - 16mm instead of the usual Rootes 38mm. When you factor in the extra width as well, the tyre is going to be getting very close indeed to those back arches. One chap on retrorides had to roll the inside edge on one side, so I guess build tolerances of a particular arrow body could have an influence.

Blimey David, you having trouble sleeping?!

That alpine does look quite smart, a few more of them are now starting to appear which is good.
