Ah-ha. I thought I'd seen it up for sale in the west county. I thought Devon but it looks like it was cornwall.

Thanks for the brief history D: I can add it went to Reading early 2000's & then late 2000's to Cornwall. I saw it on e-Bay in Feb, but not sure if at same Essex location?
Here's a photo in better days. A little to much on the Purple for some, but let's hope it is saved. . G.

I know RMB 676L! This one spent several months sitting in my back yard. I think did some welding on this one - years ago - for one of the previous owners. I eventually bought the car to save it as he couldn't afford to keep it. I then sold it on to Alec Nisbet (he was a series fan but I persuaded him to take it on) as I knew he would save it. Last time I saw RMB676L it looked like new - that was some years ago though!
Purple paint, purple carpets, purple seats, purple door trims, purple centre console, purple dash, maybe the rear parcel shelf too. The interior door handles were black which looked odd.
Nice to see it in one piece even if it is a bit tatty. I've seen one or two other purple ones but not with a purple interior too - this could well be the only one!

I have had a couple of Rover 827 vitesse's and a later model 2.0 litre turbo and my problem is that to get 3 cars in is tough and can only be done by picking the diff up with a trolley jack on the first car and pushing the back end into position. Then you can get 2 more cars in without having to use the trolley, but the gaps between them are minimal, just enough to open the doors and slide yourself in side ways.
This method works for Opel Manta/Sunbeam Rapier sized cars. When I had the Rovers they were daily drivers so they would spend all their time outside. I had a Jaguar xj coupe in there about 10 years ago but it was a pain in the ass cos wherever I put it it was always in the way of working on something. Really I'd need to sell two of them and just have the one project car and a big yank in there I guess.
I dunno..... so many cars out there, so little time!

There are a couple of Scamps on ebay at the moment. Minus the buttresses - unfortunately.
My comparison of the Marlin to an 820 was to demonstrate that it will go into most standard UK garages. I had a Vitesse coupe as a hobby car up until around 5 years ago. It fit though the door and in the garage with room to spare (the garage is a double but the two bays are separated by a big post). Rover 820's were narrow v/s their width with the marlin being 73mm narrower still but 71mm longer.
Looking at some of the ropey stuff on ebay this looks a fantastic car for the money. Still a lot for giant toy but comparably very good.
I do like a good fastback.

Is probably the only purple one left, I don't remember seeing one in any of the show pics that people post on here. Glen will be along soon to give us the full SP as to how many there are. Probably even be able to give us the name of the guy that signed it off the production line! 
It's too far from me anyway as I'm maybe 50 miles north of you. This Marlin is a beauty and very rare over here. Only problem is that even it fit through my garage door, I would be unlikely to get anything else in with it, and these aren't the kind of cars that do well outside in British weather.
I was seriously thinking of buying one of these from Meh-he-ho.

Is a Dodge Dart but is known as a 'Mexican Charger' due to the sail panels on the C pillars. The story goes that it was a modification that the Mexican factory came up with to try to boost sales in the early seventies, but never approached Detroit for their permission. Hence it ran until 1976 when Dodge in the US discontinued production of the standard Dart model.
My plan was/is to buy the RHD conversion parts from South Africa cos there are still plenty of 'A body' cars out there. Although it's not as a big as a Merlin I'd probably still have to do some serious mods to the garage or sell another car. Believe it or not but 3 grand in pesos (obviously), would buy a minter.

For my money I'd go for this.
Only 71mm longer than a Rover 820 but 73mm narrower.
What a motor. Pity I'v got a garage full of partially dismantled Karmann Ghia.
Once in a lifetime - Hope it goes to a good home. Always had a soft spot for Nash / AMC stuff.

Yes Tim.
Im a big fan of the 70's colours. A purple one would certainly tick all the boxes for me. I Remember a friend of a friend had a Marina Coupe TC in very dark purple, think it was called Black Tulip. Then there was the Ford Escort Mk 1's and Cortina Mk 3's in the ford metallic purple, Wild Violet I think.
The useless stuff I know!
I'm also sure I saw this one for sale many years ago (6 or 7 poss more). I was piled high with junk in a shed in the west country (Devon rings a bell). It must be the same one. unless anyone knows of any more with purple interiors and exteriors? |

Can't say I've ever seen one at all. Did they really mould a purple dash surround? I think this is the car that came up on ebay a couple of years ago and someone on here mistakenly thought I'd bought it. Can't remember which thread it was in now.
Got to admit to having a bit of a soft spot for purple on 70's motors. This car looks quite honest for a resto project.
