Hi all,
I'm having difficulty getting a seal at the manifold/downpipe joint as the stud threads are badly worn and I can only tighten the nuts by using several washers.I want to renew the studs but in the event of them breaking off (most likely),I am considering drilling out the remains straight through the stud holes and fitting s.s.bolts/nuts.
My question is has anyone sucessfully drilled through a manifold in this way,it is a SIV with 'blind'holes and fitted bolts instead of studs.
Regards
John

With manifold off it's now clear that the bolt option will not work,it would on a later SV manifold,so I'll have a try with new longer brass nuts before I resort to drilling out the studs etc etc.

I've run a good nut down the studs, with plenty of oil,and it seems to have improved the situation so hopefully the longer brass nuts will sort the problem.

Could you not re-cut the thread to improve the "bite"??
