Posted - 07 May 2011 : 15:26:57 Hey guys
Im after a bit of help. As your probably aware my car loves to loose oil from around the crank pulley, even after fitting a new crank pulley.
After speeking to my mechanic, he has asked if a could source a new case (the one that reminds me of a kidney bowl) as he think mine is probably worn and to allowing oil of opening for the pulley.
If anyone has one they would like to sell me- im not worried if its not new, as long as its not at all worn.
Cheers
ps if this doesnt work then ill follow previous advise and try some sealant

Posted - 07 May 2011 : 18:45:29 I have read many comments over time about the tendancy of our Rootes engines to leak oil from the timing cover and the concencus seems to be that the design of the oil thrower and scrolled pulley shaft are never going to be totally efficient at retaining oil in the timing case.I recently saw a modified cover for sale on e-bay with a proper oil seal, but this was 'home made'.I have also seen various modifications on an Alpine website which reduce the amount of oil in the timing case and also suggest the fitting of a larger oil thrower. johnc
ps just found website askthemechanic.co.uk |

Is it not worth taking yours off, getting everything nice and clean then re-seal with a new gasket. You could use some hylomar to be sure.
I would imagine that would do the trick.
If not I probably have a spare but couldn't guarantee is would be any better than yours.
Cheers for now,
Jason.
