Posted - 28 Dec 2010 : 20:30:48 Hey as Christmas has now passed im wanting to treat the car and thought a new steering wheel would be a good addition.
When i was at the NEC i had a good look around and was very tempted to get one, but then found out noone had any idea as to what boss i need to fit on my steering column.
As far as im aware, my steering column is standard and fitted to rapier fastbacks from 1968. my column allows the wheel to extend or retract and has a pretty narrow spine.
Any help would be good, thanks guys

Posted - 13 Jan 2011 : 00:23:28 Be interested to know just how it feels and drives bearing in mind that yours has been lowered and is running on low profile tyres.... same as mine Martin. Let me know after you've taken her for a spin!

Posted - 03 Jan 2011 : 17:23:42 Hi guys. For what it is worth a Hillman Imp boss fits our cars(well certainly the later non adjustable column). I had a wooden mountney on my Singer Vogue but Mike has borrowed it for his H120(VRC)now. I would think that the splines are almost certainly the same on the adjustable column, which is what i have on NAD. And i wouldn't recommend any smaller than a 13" wheel or yes you will end up with arms like ARNIE. HAPPY BEAMING |

Posted - 30 Dec 2010 : 20:18:46 Yeh or Paypal. I'd meet you halfway - but I think I'm near Norwich, I think it might be a lot of miles.
Heres some pictures - I will try to get in the garage tomorrow and get some of it on the column (I've got the adjustable from the '68 in there).

Posted - 30 Dec 2010 : 12:21:40 UMU: Yes mate. It's no use to me - but I'll make sure it fits first. All I want for it is enough to cover the postage and buy a few beers. I will clean up one of my steering columns, make sure the boss fits and take some photos for you. Hopefully this evening.
Arrocuda: I used 195x50x15 on 7x15 rims for several years and a standard size wheel. Absolutely fine when moving, but turning the wheel when stationary will help improve your muscle tone and upper body strength Probably best not to go for a 10 inch wheel! |

Although I like the idea of a smaller wheel, this is what I was thinking. I have fitted low profile tyres and they are wider than standard. Could be hard to manouvre at low speed with a smaller wheel without power steering assistance. Anyone on here tried it?
