Posted - 20 Oct 2013 : 15:59:20 Hi everyone
Have fitted 2 side-by-side electric fans and now no longer have over-heating problems... BUT... need to change the alternator for more output...as it seems the fitted alternator cannot keep up with the extra demand... especially at slower speeds...
Please can you advise what I should go for...
many thanks
Stella
I should add that the fans pull 10.5Amps.. I don't know what the original alternator provides but I need more.....

Will check to see if it is an AC or ACR.. not an urgent problem at the moment, but we do want to get things sorted out before the winter arrives and we start using the heater, lights and wipers all at the same time...
regards

Posted - 22 Oct 2013 : 22:31:55 Hi Stella, Which type of alternator have you got on the AC or ACR? The former has a separate unit somewhere nearby with wires going to it. Best to replace with the ACR type - well that's probably all you can get now - I've just done it on my Fastback. I just used the 17ACR (I presume 17amp output?), I don't know what's on a Series car, but I would have thought that should be good enough to keep up with fans when they are on. I imagine there are greater outputs, but someone else might know more about that. Not a lot of help there, but hope it helps a bit. Regards. G. |
