I organised the stand for the commer van fan this year and im planing it next year as no one else wants to do it!It is alot of hard work. Its a little bit of a different story with our club though as we dont charge for membership and have no club funds! We run on donations from members which isnt alot but works. Like Rapierdave has said you need 4days spare to do it with setting up on thursday, friday (show opens),saturday, sunday, you will need at least two/three on the stand at any one time. There is your insurance which cost around £65 I think from memory. You then have all your fuel cost traveling to and from nec in another car as your (show car) can not move untill show close on sunday night. If you live miles away you will also have accomodation costs with food etc.You can easily spend £1000 from start to finish so just make sure you have taken all this into account
But all that said its great fun

Sad to say but with most clubs I am/have been involved with the majority of people become members and make use of the club and all the things that brings without really be interested in helping to ensure the club can be a viable ongoing concern.

To be fair I think the SROC has always been a well supported club with good presence at most shows but it has always been the same few people making the arrangements and supporting such events. Glen Mason is a perfect example having been custodian of the fastback spares for several years!

To some extent it is up to all of us newer and younger (relatively speaking!) members to pick up the baton and make sure the club has a successful future.

As one of the LAO's I myself am a bit guilty of not arranging as much as I perhaps could but with my resto on the go it isn't easy. Once that is finished I fully intend to make contact with my constituents to see what they want from the club and what sort of events they would be willing to support.

As for the NEC next year, I had already found the contact details on line so I will send an e-mail to see if we are in with a chance of getting back in next year. As for banners etc that can be sorted fairly easily - I have a few bits myself.

Will report back when I have more news.

As we know guys the SROC at national level has kind of ceased.
We do appear to have two clubs, the series owners active in "cut & thrust" & at the AGM meeting and the Fastback owners who appear to be more active on this forum.
This is only my perception & i am not having a go at anyone.

It does look like the only way we can have a presence at next years NEC is if its organised independantly/locally.

The interesting thing i noticed at this years NEC was the big interest in cars from the mid sixties to the mid eighties.

I am also a member of the Opel Manta Owners club & our club stand was at this & last years NEC & took a lot of organising & money from our Exec committee. It was far from the best stand there but it did look presentable & professional.

Martin knows that to display your car & man the stand you have to give up four days of your time & work hard setting it up on Thursday & taking it down on Sunday evening.
We would have to supply flags, banners, regalia for sale maybe fence posts. I am sure that some of these items are available with various area reps but where?
Here is a picture of the OMOC stand from this year, ours could look similar but obviously SROC themed

Also she said her contact, concerning our club was John Gadsby, so may be worth trying to get his attention too.

Good luck guys

Yeah id like to give it a go. From the little i picked up last year, well need to get in contact asap and hope they have a spot.
Like i said its not easy getting a stand there, but we can only try.
Ill be busy until next year, but maybe if Jason gets in touch with them and starts the ball rollin that would be good.

Heres the details i have from when i was in touch with the NEc last year. im really pleased i havent deleted this otherwise, who know how we would make contact.
Beware she is a fiesty one!!

That could look a good stand, with your H120,Martin's Rapier (tastefully modified)and my Alpine (slightly modified).
We could apply to the organisers as the South West Rapier Fastback Club
No offense intended to series owners

Hi Martin, be great if you, Dave and myself could display next year. We should get together next year and get some definite plans arranged. Be worth finding out when applications have to be in, I expect it will be a good few weeks early.

Hey guys
I agree that its dissapointing that we didnt have a stand this year. Unfortunatly my stag weekend fell last weekend so i didnt make it this year.
I was talking to Derek a while ago about a stand this year and he said the club wont support it and to sort it myself if i wanted one.
Last year the NEC were seriously annoyed with us for not sorting things out very well and for producing a poor stand.
I dont think well easily get a stand again, as they said to me there are plenty of car club queing for our spot.
If anyone would like to join me in sorting a stand for next year Please let me know as the more of us there are the more chance we have to getting it sorted again.

Havent been on for ages - sorry guys, but the Weddings now imminent (Dec 9th)
Oh yeah you may laugh, ive now installed remote central locking and alarm system to UMU, which im pretty chuffed about.
Cheers

I would like to have mine ready by the time the next NEC takes place, but I'm afraid I wouldn't make it there...
I can always try though...
Would be nice.

I'm going along on Sunday, if anyone else is going to be there and fancies meeting up for a Rapier related chat let me know.

Hi Jason
I'll be there with my Son on Sunday.
We normally go into the onsite Wetherspoons for a Brekkie about 8:30 and the doors for the show open at 9:30 i think.
Shame about no Rapiers on show, maybe we can organise something for 2012
