I wonder if anyone else ever feels like me at classic car shows, I often feel as I’m being treat like a Capri “wannabee owner” you know “poor chap wanted a crapi but has had to settle for second best”!, I often hear people say “it’s a bit like a crapi” and I’m fed up fighting the Rapiers corner you know things like “the rapier came out in 67’ two year’s before the crapi so actually it wasn’t brought out as an alternative or copy, it was in fact the other way round”, but time after time a marshal stick’s me in with them!, the first picture is the Cleveland Crapi Club and the second is the South Yorkshire Crapi Club, I rest my case:-

So Fellow Fastback Fans how do we fight back?
Best Regards

Certainly the Rapier was ahead of it's time when launched and anyone who like me who has had several 'A' series Manta's would be jealous of a car fitted with an overdrive as standard. Don't forget that a 5 speed option did not become available on the Manta until Opel launched the 'B' series in '76.... ironically the year that Chrysler discontinued the Rapier.

Well it’s not actually the crapi owners themselves that wind me up, most of them are well aware of the Rapier and it’s capabilities, the fact that until you get the big engine’d crapi’s ths Rapier is faster (my mate had a 1600 GTXLR and he hadn’t a hope in hell in traffic light grand prix’s) and most of them give the H120 a lot of respect ( in fact it has a fearsome reputation which it probably doesn’t deserve!) and are envious of the overdrive – one chap I was talking to had fitted the gearbox of a Scimitar to his 3 litre (apparently it’s a straight swap) to get overdrive on his- and in fact twice I’ve been invited to join their club!, no it’s the attitude of the public and marshal’s etc that seem to think it’s a poor man’s crapi – I mean poor man’s Aston I can live with!!

TBH I agree with JPS Dave..... can't beat a pillarless coupe, especially on a hot summer's day. Also.... it's the fact that Capri's are so numerous that makes a Rapier that little bit special.... especially an H120.

Of course.... if Chrysler had have had the foresight to develop the model with a revised version the car might have had the same success as the Capri.... the Barracuda in the US was remodelled 3 times over roughly the same period as the Rapier was produced in fastback form over here.

Dave, don't worry too much, think how those poor Capri owners feel being put to shame!

As a final insult, as you leave you can wind down all your windows to reveal that pillarless coupe beauty and shout

"Can any of you do that....."!!!
