Goodness me what a wally! I was completely taken in by this until I read this months C&T, whats even more annoying is the "french chateaux “ is actually Kirkleatham Hall which is literally down the road from me and where the trolley bus I posted in Spotted actually lives and I know the owner of the sceptre which was used! Oh Well there’s no fool like an old fool
Best Regards

Hi, this photo was in the last Cut & Thrust, I believe it was taken somewhere in France.

Can I just check then - the picture in the link I posted is a genuine 'spy' shot from the 1960s? Is there provenance for this? Some people I have shown say it has been Photoshopped or otherwise 'made up'.

Thanks,

Vic

Hi Vic, Definitely a spoof there of the 'Raptre' or 'Scepier'. The Sceptre was of course going to be the Rapier IV, but they face-lifted it instead & brought out the then new model called the Sceptre. The Fastback on the other hand isn't a spoof though & as far as I can recall those are some of the early mock-ups of the Fastback; orginally it was going to have Hunter wings, but whether there was a steel model of that prototype or just a clay one I'm not sure. In either case Rootes/Chrysler would have destroyed it rather than kept it . So little history - crazy . G.

Hi, this photo was in the last Cut & Thrust, I believe it was taken somewhere in France. It's obviously the Rootes designer's creating new ideas for the fabled mk 6 Rapier, I am assuming that this developed into the car which was to be the mk 6 but as I understand it the powers that be renamed it Humber Sceptre at the last minute and upped the Rapier in an attempt to prolong it, then came along his most majestic highness Royston Axe with his fabulous fantastic futuristic phenomenal fastback design (see below) and the rest as they say is history, this of course could be utter codswallop but it’s as I understand it anyway!!
