Well, I'v done it. I'v bought a classic. Problem is its not a Rapier. I'v been looking for a suitable one for the best part of two years now and looked at some real crap. So, with a heavy heart I break the news of my purchase. Its a 1971 bright orange coupe. A Karmann Ghia I'm afraid.
It was local and in pretty good condition as in polish and drive with a few detailing jobs to pass the time.
I have enjoyed being part of the forum and would have loved a H120 but they just don't come along very much.
My problem now is, the VW crowd ! ?? I find them a strange perplexing lot, almost cult-like (that's cult with an 'l' not an 'n')in their worship of all things VW. I mean who, would get a VW beetle tattooed across their chest ! (I'm talking about the women here, that's got to be bordering on mentally ill? ). And whats all that ear-gromit ****e ? No, I'm afraid I'll be keeping away from that lot. It's an old car I have bought into not the bizarre cult of 'vork sprung dirk technique'
I will certainly be logging back on here for some genuine and grounded
enthusiasm from a genuine bunch. |

Yes, Arrocuda is right, I and GLSDan are Audi men too 
Do let us know how you get on with the VW and maybe when you sell it for a big profit they'll be an H120 around for you to dabble with

Glen's Audi collection is very impressive!!
Good news about the purchase Mooresy, nice little motor the Karmann Ghia, and something else you don't see very often a bit like the H120. Don't forget to show us a few photo's.

Good to hear that you have found your car even if it's not a Rapier. I will miss your 'market reports'. (even if I already have 2 Rapiers). Don't forget to drop by every now and then cos you never know you might just end up buying a Rapier yet, once you've had your fill of the 'vorsprungers'!
I've still got this Audi GT coupe on as a daily at the moment and it's beginning to embarass me a little now...... but it's ok cos I have a sneaky feeling that 'BigT Glen' and 'HunterGLS Dan' are secret dubbers so I might just get away with it.

Congratulation to your purchase, the Karman Ghia is certainly a great wee car. An aunt of mine had a couple of them for about 10 years or so. But «Vorsprung durch Technik» is Audi, not VW.
A typical VW-Slogan was «And he runs and runs and runs and runs and runs and ...», this a whole tabloid newspaper page long from top to bottom, followed only by the VW-Logo.
Another one was a picture of a real bread (continental, not british) in form of a Beetle and as headline «Was man täglich braucht, muss gut sein» (What is used daily, must be good). Both created in the Ad agency I was working in the seventies. As I had then my Fastback, I was not allowed in the VW-Team.
