Posted - 08 Jul 2013 : 22:01:41 Help people... I've been told of a couple of people on here ( Martin UMU and 1992 ) and need there help asap. Basically I've lowered my Mk3 sceptre (1975) 2'' all round. On the front I've used mk2escort 170lb springs and on the back 2''blocks universal to any Ford's. The back end is fine. It's just the front end is dodgy as fook, not safe and definatly not MOT'able because the weight of the car is the only thing holding them in place.
Basically I need to know the safest and best way to get a 2'' drop on the front, and need to know where to get the parts from. Weather it's these Sierra springs I've been told of by someone else on another forum or weather coilovers from other classics will fit.
I've been told by the same person about the Sierra springs that 'Martin UMU' and '1992' are the people to talk too. Or anyone else that has info for me.
Cheers people, Luke. |

Posted - 06 Nov 2013 : 19:11:30 A good place to start would be speedy spares, they list SPAX shocks for Sceptres, see here;

Give them a call, they are extremely knowledgeable and helpful in my experience.

Posted - 06 Nov 2013 : 16:35:08 I know absolutely nothing about suspension, but have been directed here from another forum. Does anyone know the part number for SPAX front & rear suspension struts for a MK 2 Humber Sceptre (1966)? I'm having my engine converted to 120-130bhp by Coltec Racing, and need something a little stiffer. Any recommendations welcome?
I've seen on the www.needforspeed.co.uk/pages/sbv_pl.asp?Vehicle=HBSCE01&PartType=SUS04 website: SPX-G146 Sceptre Mk I-II '63-'67 Front £75+VAT SPX-G144 Sceptre Mk I-II '63-'67 Rear £75+VAT
So I called up Spax, but they said they were for a Hillman Imp, and could not guarantee they are the correct ones, and cannot except returns. Which is pretty poor service and bad business in my book.
So I'm at a loss.

Posted - 05 Aug 2013 : 13:24:14 They must be universal fit as they are both on the diagram for early & late struts.

Posted - 04 Aug 2013 : 10:24:25 Can you use both versions of the top mount with either strut? I see both listed on each page. |

Posted - 04 Aug 2013 : 10:04:17 Early struts - up to '73
Later struts - from '73
To use the Sierra springs or anything similar you will need to later type struts. Yes - I'm quite near Norwich and you are welcome to come look at the car (I can't bring it to you yet!). Email me though the forum.

Posted - 25 Jul 2013 : 10:24:49 Put the springs on last night, sits alot higher on the front now, they've bed in a little bit but not much, n not sure if they'll bed in more unless I buy different better shocks. I'm no mechanic so don't no!
All I've used for it is mk2escort rear lowering blocks (2''drop) mk2 escort 2'' lowering springs 175lb as Andy said. I'm now debating having the legs converted to coilovers in the winter though. I also replaced the ball joints as they were shot! |

Posted - 25 Jul 2013 : 07:59:01 When you've done it, can you list out exactly what you bought in the end - and check the ride height, etc.
I am after a 1" drop and no more for my Hunter, this might prove to be useful info for me. Unless 1922 had the ford part number/ FINIS codes from those Sierra springs? |

Posted - 24 Jul 2013 : 10:23:39 Yeah mate, cheers for telling me, springs and ball joints should be on tonight if the joints turn up today ready for 2nd MOT on Saturday.
Good advice on here, good to see the enthusiasm from the owners. |
