Hi Guys & Gals,

My "New" rapier 3178 RF was only firing on 3 cylinders on the day of collection. Rings had gone thus no compression. The garage from whom I bought the car have done an engine re-build without charge. I have paid for new parts etc. During the re-build I had an Alpine innovations timing cover fitted as the engine had been "leaving its mark".

The new timing cover appears to be fine, but oil is still being lost, and I was considering replacing the pressed steel sump with the cast alloy version. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to replace the sump with the engine in situ.

It is obviously the long front bolts that could be an issue with the cross member. Unfortunately due to a recent neck operation, I can not get under the car at the moment.

Hope someone can help with this.

We wend on the Roote around Britain on Sunday organised by David Dodd, and it was very good indeed, sham there were only two Rapiers!

Regards

Norman
